Cheek Guards: The helmet's sides extended downwards to cover the cheeks, forming cheek guards or cheekplates. These provided protection to the face and helped shield the soldier's cheeks from glancing blows or projectiles.

Visor or Face Mask: Some Roman helmets had a face mask or visor that covered the front of the face, leaving openings for the eyes, nose, and mouth. The visor offered additional facial protection while allowing the soldier to see and breathe. It could be hinged or fixed in place, depending on the helmet design.

Neck Guard: The back of the helmet featured a neck guard or nape guard that extended down to protect the back of the neck. It helped shield the vulnerable neck area from attacks and provided stability to the helmet on the soldier's head.

Liner and Chinstrap: Inside the helmet, a padded liner made of fabric or leather provided comfort and cushioning for the wearer. It also helped absorb impact and reduce the risk of head injuries. A chinstrap made of leather or fabric was used to secure the helmet on the soldier's head, ensuring a snug fit during combat.

Plume or Crest: Some Roman helmets had a plume or crest attached to the top or front of the helmet. These plumes were often made of horsehair or feathers and served as decorative elements that also enhanced the soldier's visibility and presence on the battlefield.

Roman helmets were not standardized, and variations existed based on the time period, military unit, or rank of the soldier. The design and features of Roman helmets evolved over centuries, reflecting changes in warfare tactics and influences from different regions.
